Sales and Business Development Manager
Introduction
-Jim Rohn
A sale is the act of selling a product or service in return for money or other compensation. It is an act of completion of a commercial activity. The Person accomplishing it is the sales person or business development person. It is one of the most exciting and rewarding career option in a growing economy like ours.
The Sales Manager’s career is a roller coaster career; where one faces tremendous excitement and stress, both in equal measures. This career is for those who relish the flow of adrenalin. A key requisite for any successful sales person is to be full of positivity and confidence. The sales person must be able to internalize all the positive things about the product or service that he is selling and then transfer that positive feeling to the prospective customer.
Usually one starts the career in sales as an executive, wherein the responsibility includes identifying the prospective customers, preparing for the sales pitch, making the pitch and going for sales. As one grows in the sales career and starts managing a team of sales persons, the responsibilities become more of providing leadership to the team and keeping them motivated to achieve the set targets.
One needs to be very good in communication and should possess a very positive attitude to progress as a good sales manager. Not every sales call results in positive results, therefore a sales manager must be able to take negative news in his/her stride and move on with fresh enthusiasm towards newer potential clients. The role of a sales manager is very entrepreneurial and many entrepreneurs actually started off as Sales Persons.
