NITIE Mumbai
Located in the scenic surroundings of north Mumbai flanked by Powai and Vihar Lakes, NITIE was established in 1963. NITIE is governed by a Board of Governors comprising eminent personalities from government, academia and industry. It has been acknowledged as a centre of excellence along with the IITs, IIMs and IISc by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
"Nothing could stop Asna from achieving her dream – to study MBBS at one of the best medical colleges in the country. Asna, an aspiring doctor from Kerala lost her right leg in a bomb attack in 2000. She did not give up on her ambition, worked hard day and night and cleared the medical entrance exam to get a seat in Kozhikode Medical College. She was excited to go to the college before she came across a major problem – climbing two floors to attend classes, which was not possible for Asna. She almost saw her dream disappearing, until her helplessness was brought to the government's notice. The principal informed that it was tough to arrange classes on the ground floor and the government reciprocated by sanctioning Rs 36 lakh for installing a lift in the college premises. Asna is elated by the government's gesture and she shared that this facility would help all the differently abled students. Now, its been more than two weeks since she started attending classes.
